In 1940, he started to develop his own submachine gun - PPSh (Shpagin submachine gun). For his ingenuity he was employed then as an engineer, and later - as a designer. Without an engineering degree and relying only on instinct I proposed significant changes to the design of the Fedorov machine gun, facilitating its manufacture without sacrificing combat performance. I encountered the most interesting section of artillery machines which evoked the feeling about the same as dying of thirst in front of a spring water creek.Īfter the Civil War I fixed myself as a fitter in the experimental workshop of the Kovrov Arms Factory. In the workshop I devoted hours to learning various weapons of domestic and foreign production. I got into the situation, which I could only dream of.
